Some say birthday celebrations are for children and the elderly (those who think over 70 years are considered milestones). I am different. I think each birthday in my life is a celebration, and not just because of the funny little adage that birthdays are good for your health (the more you have, the longer you live) It’s because to me, every year, heck, every DAY survived is a milestone within itself. At 41, I am not “over the hill”, under the hill, up the creek, or one foot on a banana peel. This year has been like one big gift to me. Without the new beginnings and wonderful adventures of full-time RV life, I would not be having this birthday. I don’t think it’s crazy or weird to celebrate each birthday as if it were a fresh start, because it can be. It is always a day for me to pick a place to go I have never been before, a new campground or a new state park, a different lake or river, a new waterfall or hiking trial. Nature’s gifts are all around and it’s a day for me to enjoy one picked out just for me. Sure, this year the both of us have gotten to do a lot of that, and we will be able to continue to do so with our RV lifestyle, but birthdays are for picking one spot in particular to have a “special” day. I hope this encourages each of you to do the same on your birthdays. Go out and explore somewhere you have been wanting to but haven’t really had a reason. Celebrating the fact that you made it through the struggles of another year is reason enough!
